The Alarming Truth: Black Maternal Health Disparities in Nashville
In Tennessee, Black women are 2.5 times more likely to die from pregnancy-related complications than white women, with maternal mortality rates at 68.4 vs. 27.8 per 100,000 live births, respectively
For our babies, the disparities are just as stark:
In 2022, Black infants had a mortality rate of 10.9 per 1,000 live births, compared to 4.5 for white infants.
These numbers aren’t just statistics. They represent real lives, real families, and real losses. They highlight a truth our community already knows: we need support we can trust—and that starts with care that understands our culture, our concerns, and our faith.
